Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a session last?

Your pets first session is 30 minutes to an hour depending on the dog - in this session, we get your pets medical history, reason for coming to hydrotherapy, take measurements of the muscle mass in the legs as well as measurements around their waist and chest. Once we have completed your pet's history and measurements, they are then fitted with a harness if required and their hydrotherapy session begins. For the first appointment, we take it very slow so we don't overwhelm your pet and so we can also watch how your pet walks on the treadmill and identify any other problematic areas. The first treadmill session only lasts 6 - 8 minutes and while this may not seem like a long time, your pet has had the equivalent of an hours walk!

Further sessions are then 15 minutes in length depending on what your pet needs. Your pets time and speed on the treadmill will change or increase as their treatment plan progresses.

My dog doesn't like water, is hydrotherapy still an option?

Definitely; this is the most common question we are asked and it is incredibly rare that we have a pet completely panicked by the water once they are on the treadmill. Unlike our pool, the underwater treadmill slowly fills up with water from the bottom of the tank and this helps prevent your pets fear of being submerged in water - plus, the water is heated at a lovely 30 degrees Celsius ... it's practically a spa bath!

How quickly will we see results?

Results vary greatly depending on your pets medical history, injury or illness. As mentioned earlier, we take measurements of your pet at their first session, we then take measurements at sessions 5 and 10 to monitor their progress. If your pet continues hydrotherapy beyond 10 sessions, we will take measurements every 5th session.

Do I need to get in the water with my dog?

Not at all. If your pet requires assistance to walk on the treadmill due to a medical condition or because they are a bit unsure, our friendly team are more than happy to jump in with them to give them a helping hand.

How much does hydrotherapy cost?

Please see our Fees page for all the information about our prices.

Do you offer discounts?

We offer discounts on our 10 sessions package and multi dog households.

We also offer a senior pensions discount on our 10 sessions package.

Is hydrotherapy an option for cats with injuries?

Absolutely! We are always open to trying out all sorts of animals on our treadmill. We have 2 regular cats that attend hydrotherapy very happily and we have also helped treat a sheep and a goat - we are happy to help any pet! Training your cat is short intervals walking on a harness and slowly introducing your cat to water will definitely help your cat prepare for hydrotherapy.

What payment options do you offer?

We accept cash, VISA, MasterCard and bank transfers for your pets sessions. We now also offer Afterpay!
